Candace "Candy" Jimison Brewer

Candace ‘Candy’ Jimison Brewer, 64, of Meridian, MS, passed away on May 17, 2016. She was wrapped in the arms of her loving husband until her very last breath. Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel in Laurel, MS on May 22, 2016 at 1 p.m. The funeral service will start immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m. at Memory Chapel in Laurel, MS. Greg Gavin of Pine Grove Baptist Church will be officiating. Her burial will follow the funeral at Lott Cemetery in Ellisville, MS. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memory Chapel. Candy was born in Laurel, MS on August 29, 1951. She graduated from Northeast Jones High School and continued on to the University of Southern Mississippi where she studied Library Science. Candy was married to James Larry Brewer on August 25, 1970; they were married for almost 44 years. Candy worked as an educator and librarian. She worked at schools throughout Mississippi and Louisiana. She was an inspirational educator. She finished her career at Parkview Elementary in Meridian, MS. She had worked in education for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her father, M.L. Jimison and Sally Faye McBride of Laurel, MS. Candy is survived by her husband, James Larry Brewer, of Meridian, MS; her children Candace Brewer Smith of Columbus, MS, Eric Brewer of Little Rock, MS, and Layla Brewer Gilbert of Collinsville, MS; her sons-in-law, Bryan Smith of Columbus, MS, and Daryl Gilbert of Collinsville, MS; her daughter-in-law, Dana White Brewer of Little Rock, MS; her brother, Wendell McCraw of St. Augustine, FL; her sisters, Elaine Gavin of Laurel, MS, Linda Christian of Ellisville, MS, and Sally Smith of Mt. Olive, MS; her brothers-in-law Marvin Gavin of Laurel, MS, Ronald Christian of Ellisville, MS, Kenneth Smith of Mt. Olive, MS; her sister-in-law Jaqueline McCraw of St. Augustine, FL; her grandchildren, Brantley Smith and Brylee Smith of Columbus, MS, Ana Gilbert, Brooke Gilbert, and Kamryn Gilbert of Collinsville, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Pallbearers are Eric Brewer, Bryan Smith, Daryl Gilbert, Ronald Christian, Chad Christian, Richard Herron, Nathan Hall, and David Herron. Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Douglas Phillips, Donice Burnett, Brantley Smith, and Dr. Thomas Plavac. Washington Irving once said, “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” And that was Candy. The world lost one bright, shining light of a spirit who filled every room with smiles and laughter. She will be sorely missed.
