Charles O. McKenzie

Charles Oma McKenzie, 81, of Soso, went to meet the Lord on July 21, 2016, at South Central Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at Springhill Baptist Church with visitation at the church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Bro. Kenneth Flynt, Bro, Steven Clark, and Bro, Andy Miller will officiate. Mr. McKenzie was born October 6, 1934 in Bay Springs, MS to Oma and Mary McKenzie. After graduating high school he moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he worked as a fireman for 16 years. He then returned to MS where he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service for 28 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. Charles Oma McKenzie and Elinor Carlisle met in 11th grade at Soso High School and married on January 24, 1953 in Soso at the home of Milton and Maureen Carlisle by Ray Thornton. They were childhood sweethearts and he was a loving husband during their 62 years together. Mr. McKenzie was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and was a Mason until his health declined. He was preceded in death by his parents Oma and Mary McKenzie; brother, Cooper McKenzie; and two sisters, Louise Fizel and Billie Ruth Scheuer. Survivors include his wife, Elinor Carlisle McKenzie of Soso; son, Gary Daniel McKenzie (Cindy) of Soso; daughter, Brenda McKenzie Cranford of Soso; grandchildren, Kelly (Aaron) Myers, Nathan (Jennifer) Hudson, Tony (Brittany) Hudson, Dustin (Allison) McKenzie, Nicole (Chance) Moore, Daniel McKenzie Brown, Joyce Chandler, Stephanie Smith and Lisa (Josh) Williams; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. His brothers and sisters are Duette (Roy) Gamage, Burdette (Darrel) Ellzie, Maurine (Milton) Carlisle, Burl (Mary Helen) Carlisle, and Diane (Lewis) Johnson. Pallbearers will be Gary McKenzie, Nathan Hudson, Tony Hudson, Dustin McKenzie, Aaron Myers, Chance Moore, Drew Myers, Austin Myers, and Daniel McKenzie Brown.
