Eras King

Eras King went to be with his Lord, Thursday, June 30, 2011. Mr. King, a resident of Stinger, was born March 23, 1928 in Smith County, and was the 15th child and youngest son of John O’Flynn King and his wife Lucy Ola McLeod King. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leland, Dan, Jesse, Arnold, Melvin, Vernal, Charles Ray, and Kenneth King; and sisters, Adlea King Chapman, Kathleen Freeman, Norma King Ervin, Gladyce King Bush, Janice King and Rebecca King. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 62 years and the love of his life, Pauline Bufkin King; children, Michael King and wife Twyla, Deborah King McCallum and husband James, Billy King and wife, April, and Jamie King and wife Sandra, all of Stringer. “Papaw King” was proud of his ten grandchildren, who are Jason McCallum and wife Jennifer, Ashlea King Maddox and husband Robert, Shawn McCallum and wife Hannah, Bufkin King Frazier and husband Blake, Lindsey King Dickinson and husband Russell, DeAnne McCallum Parker and husband Keith, Warren King and wife Jessica, Hilary King Free and husband William, Amy King Hunt and husband Ryan, and Andrew King. The lights of his life were his 17 great grandchildren, Caroline Skipper, Jacob Maddox, Lanie and Bryce Parker, Luke and Emily McCallum, Matthew and Landon McCallum, Will, Ashlin and Presley Free, Ellie and Nolan Frazier, Dusty and Riley King, Alec Dickinson and Blair Hunt. Also surviving Mr. King are his last living sibling, a sister, Bobbie Ann King Steverson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to name. Mr. King served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was retired after having been self-employed the reminder of his life. He was a member of Edon Baptist, the Soso Masonic Lodge, and the Hamasa Shrine Temple. Visitation will be 9:30 until service time on Saturday, July 2, at Edon Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am Saturday at the Church with interment at Edon Cemetery immediately following. Rev. John Davis will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason McCallum, Shawn McCallum, Warren King, Andrew King, Russell Dickinson and Keith Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Maddox, William Free, Ryan Hunt, Blake Frazier, Johnny Rowell, Mitchell Sullivan, Dwight Gray and Mike Turner. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Edon Baptist Church, 576 County Road 7, Stringer, MS 39481. Memory Chapel of Laurel is in charge of the arrangements.
