Gala P. Bonner

Gala P. Bonner, 79, of Laurel died Monday, March 20, 2017 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Chapel. The Rev. Duke Parish and Rev. Harold Ishee will officiate. Burial will follow at Heidelberg Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel. Pallbearers will be Jamie Howard, Patrick Howard, Hunter Howard, Dave Howard, Ron Gaskin, and Joe Parish. Gala was born to the late Dave and Mae Lindsey Parish on January 28, 1938. She was a long-time resident of Laurel where she graduated from George S. Gardiner High School. She worked at Sanderson Farms until her retirement. Gala was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Mae Lindsey Parish; the love of her life, husband, John A Bonner; son, Will Bonner; sister, Pat (Jimmy) Howard; brother, Lindsey (Libby) Parish; and nephews, David, Howard, and Steve Parish. She is survived by nephews and nieces, Jimmy (Dana) Howard, Jr. of Hattiesburg, Jennifer (Mike) McCormick of Marrero, LA, Susan (Decker) Freeman of Laurel, Duke (Brenda) Parish of Ellisville, Scott (Tonya) Parish of Ellisville, Craig Parish of Texas, and Dr. Tommy (Kathy) Bonner of Heidelberg; sister-in-law, Margie (T. O.) Bonner; numerous cousins; and special friends, Camille Harrison, Tracy Merrell, and Bobbie Richardson. Gala was a faithful member of Plainway Baptist Church. She was a very active member of the “ Ruth” Sunday School Class and W.M.U. until she became ill. Completely dedicated to her family, her greatest love was for her husband, John and son, Will. Gala loved life itself. She was a very caring, loving person who respected and loved her family and friends unconditionally. She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. She would always tell us that God had her illness under control. She is now safe and secure in the arms of her Savior. The family expresses its deepest gratitude for the excellent and loving care given by her “family” at Comfort Care Nursing Home and for the special care she received from South Central Regional Medical Center, I.C.U. and nurses on 2nd floor.
