Gladys Annette Strickland

Gladys Annette Strickland, 67, of Sandersville MS passed away at her residence on August 2, 2023. Gladys was retired from many years of customer service in the fast food and convenience store industries. Gladys was preceded in death by husband James “Eddie” Strickland of Sandersville, son Jamie Lott of Jackson, mother Dorothy Jacques of Taylorsville, and father Dewy Herrington of Sandersville. Gladys is survived by her son Ricky Strickland of Sandersville, James Strickland of Laurel (Janie), and Dan Strickland of Laurel; special nieces Trista Moss of Taylorsville, Dana Bates of Laurel, and special nephew Joey Bates of Ellisville (Amelia); grandchildren Zach Strickland (Haven), Charlee Strickland (Hannah), Sarah Windham (Tyler), and Katie Strickland (Tyler); great grandchildren Riley, Alissa, Molly, Alison, Mason, Grace, Levi, Talon, Paxton, Lailey, Branning, Joseph, Michael, Jacob, and Will; sister Terry Bates of Laurel; special cousin and friend James Herrington (Doris) of Sandersville; and a host of friends and family. Gladys was born in Laurel, MS on March 11, 1956. Gladys was a wonderful wife, mother, maw-maw, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. If you knew Gladys, you know her heart was made for helping people; she would happily do without so she could do for others. Her babies (babies being her own children, as well as all of the other children that she claimed as her own from “The Ville”) were her life. She was said to have made the best ever chicken and dumplings, and two batches were regularly requested by Charlee. Mom fought this cancer for many years, but she did it with a smile. Gladys will be missed by many. The family invites everyone to help celebrate her life. There will be short visitation at Memory Chapel on Wednesday, August 9th at 9:00 a.m. and then a graveside service to follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery (330 CR 72 East in Taylorsville) at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their prayers, visits, calls, assistance with doctor visits, yard work, and words of encouragement. Not one act of kindness to our Maw-Maw has gone unnoticed. Pallbearers will be Zach Strickland, Charlee Strickland, Dennis “BoBo” Stevens, Will Bates, Michael Moss, and William Herrington.
