Gloria Jean Cook

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Jean Cook, more lovingly known as “Nanny”. A cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt Goggie, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Gloria found herself in the arms of the Lord on December 2nd, 2024 from her home in the Sharon community, surrounded by family. She was 80 years old. Gloria embodied kindness, fearlessness, and humor from an early age - qualities that defined her life and touched countless others. Her laughter was infectious, and her warmth spread wherever she went. Her ability to make everyone feel special was a quality she carried throughout her life. Gloria was a member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a woman of profound faith, and it was her personal relationship with God that guided every step of her journey. She found strength in prayer, and comfort and guidance in scripture. She led others by example through acts of service and compassion, and always welcomed everyone into her home where you would find her with a grandbaby on her lap and a cup of coffee in her hand (or in the microwave). She always knew her unwavering belief would bring her home to Jesus, and reunite her with loved ones who had gone before. She is now exactly where she has longed to be, and has been looking for, for so long…home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Cook; father and mother, Elbert and Eunice Davis; her sister, Lunette Moore; her son, Richard Cook; and her son-in-law, Anthony Wofford. She is survived by her brothers, Joe Davis (Linda) and Ray Davis; her youngest son, Jason Cook (Gina); her eldest daughter, Pam Welch (Ray); her youngest daughter, Angie Cook; grandchildren, Brandi Sullivan, Katelynn Melton, Gage Cook, Kelsey Cook, Casey Cole (Drew), Colton Cook, Miles Cook, Sarah Gruich (Jesse), Ethan Hilbun (Emma), Madison Cook, Will Wofford, Jack Cook, and array of great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria’s legacy will live on through all the lives she touched; from the church where she served selflessly, to her family where she had a hand in raising and teaching all. She offered warmth and love like no other — and always made sure there were smiles along the way. She was a remarkable woman who will be missed by all. Services will be officiated by Brother Kenneth Smith at Victory Baptist Church on Saturday, December 7th. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at Victory, and service at 2:00 pm with graveside to follow.
