Grady Rolland May

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of our cherished father, Grady Rolland May, on October 20, 2025. Rolland was a graduate of Glade High School. He soon married the love of his life, Mary Helen Gilbreath May. They shared a beautiful marriage for fifty-eight years that was a living picture of love, commitment and grace. Rolland and Helen worked together their entire marriage operating several different businesses including May’s Grocery, Hazel’s Personal Care Home and VideoZone. Rolland was a dedicated member of Glade Baptist Church. He lived a life that genuinely reflected the Fruits of the Spirit through his actions, his words and his faithfulness. Rolland was humble, gentle and selfless and found joy through serving his family. Rolland displayed a true servant’s heart, always putting the needs of others first. He was a true reflection of a humble heart and a life well-lived. Rolland was also an avid chess player and had a subtle wit about him that would bring smiles and laughter to any moment. Rolland was a faithful son, a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family meant everything to him, and he taught us so much about unconditional love, forgiveness, and the importance of family. He left a legacy that simply cannot be measured and the virtues he lived by will continue to guide us each day. Rolland was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Gilbreath May; his parents, Grady Burture May and Hazel Parker May; brothers, Mansul Charles May and Larry Joe May; and grandson, Grady Alex May. He is survived by his son, Randy May (Elizabeth), daughter, Lorrie Dry (Derrick); grandchildren, Alaina May, Mason Dry (Reagan), Maylen Johnson (Joshua); great-grandchildren, Oliver May, Della Rae Dry, Mary Lawrence Johnson and Everleigh May Johnson, and granddaughter-in-law Ashton May. Memory Chapel Funeral Home will be overseeing a graveside visitation and service at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel, Mississippi. Dr. J.R. Eaton will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather as we honor the life of Rolland. Pallbearers will be Derrick Dry, Mason Dry, Joshua Johnson, Joseph Harrison and Oliver May. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Operation Christian Child Ministry at Glade Baptist Church, a ministry that was very dear to Rolland and Helen.
