Janis Louise Lovett

Janis Louise Lovett born October 23, 1934 died January 13, 2016, at the age of 81. Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016, at Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16th at Greater Laurel United Pentecostal Church with visitation at the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Myrick Cemetery. Reverends Michael Zeigler, Donald Moore, Jonathan Moore, and Andy Taylor will officiate. Janis was the epitome of a Godly woman and simply one of the most selfless ladies you could ever meet. She never ceased to put others before herself. From a little girl picking cotton for her family until her last years as she taught home Bible Studies, made calls, visits, and prayed for people in need, she never stopped giving of herself. Janis loved to host her family when they came home and were all together. She was an AMAZING cook. From homemade biscuits, to fried chicken and roast, nobody could do it quite like her. She loved to watch us sit and enjoy the food she’d cooked. She was a passionate worshipper and a beautiful singer. She first sang and played the accordion as a young girl when her father preached revivals. Later in life, she sang in various groups for church functions. And, if you ever were in a church service with her, she’d be leading the way in worship. Janis was also a soul winner, sharing Jesus with anybody who would listen. She passed out tracts, taught Bible Studies, invited and brought people to church. Additionally, her life had a prolific impact on many young people. She taught youth Sunday School, and taught in a Christian School for many years. The lives of students who are forever changed by her example would be too many to count. More than anything, Janis’ life can be defined as a life of prayer. She was a “prayer warrior.” By example, she taught all of her children and grandchildren the power of prayer. She prayed for her family, her friends, her church, and the lost. We are forever indebted to her for this legacy of prayer. Her work on Earth may be done, but her legacy will never die. She is preceded in death by her late husband James Troy Moore, her parents Otho and Ruby Hall and her brother Cecil Hall. Survivors include her husband, Joe Lovett, Sr. of Laurel; and children Joe Lovett, Jr. of Laurel, James Michael Moore (Kay Lynn Moore) of Ellisville, Rev. Donald Gene Moore (Amy Ivy Moore) of Laurel, Troy Anthony Moore (Melissa Moore) of Knoxville TN, Janis Derethia Zeigler (Rev. Michael Lee Zeigler) of Gonzales, LA, and Rev. Jonathan David Moore (Alicia Moore) of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael Don Moore (Leslie Moore), James Marcus Moore, Donya Helena Waites (Bryan Waites), Janis Alana DeLeon (Eric DeLeon), James Donald Moore, (Kimberly), Luke, Allyssa and Hannah Moore, Medley, Leighton, and Abby-Grace Zeigler, and Mason and Britton Moore; and great grandchildren, Liam, Sienna, and Finn Moore, AnnaLeigh, Caitlin, Cade, Gentry, and Waylon Waites, and Reina DeLeon. Pallbearers will be Joe Lovett, Jr., Jamie Moore, Michael Moore, Luke Moore, Mason Moore, and Marcus Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Britton Moore, Allan Speed and Curtis Heck.
