James “Jimmy” Harold Jefcoat, 78, of Laurel, died Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born in Bay Springs, MS on April 22,1947. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charla Poore Jefcoat; son, Kevin Jefcoat (Vanessa) of Davidson, NC; daughter, Amy Blakeney (Blake) of Taylorsville; son, Eric Jefcoat (Tori) of Stringer; brother, Billy Jefcoat (Debra) of Laurel. He is also survived by several grandchildren: Zach Jefcoat of Hattiesburg, Kaleb Jefcoat (Abbey) of Long Beach, Alex Blakeney of Pensacola, FL, Victoria Blakeney of Hattiesburg, Isabella Jefcoat, Drew Jefcoat, and Ava Grace Jefcoat, all of Stringer; a special niece, Kelly Herrin (Jason) of Vossburg, their daughter Abbi; and a special nephew, Lee Bustin (BJ) of Zuni, VA, and his son Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Jefcoat and Nell Graham, along with an infant son, Jason Jefcoat. Jimmy served his country in the Vietnam War as a United States Marine, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. After his military service, he became an over-the-road truck driver, and was an owner-operator for the last 55 years, most recently being leased to Baggett Transportation in Birmingham, AL. He loved his family, and enjoyed attending all sporting events to cheer on his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons, and fellow Marine and close friend, Richard Hosey. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 6 from 5pm – 7pm at Memory Chapel in Laurel, MS. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 7 at 11am, with Brother Curtis Pitts to officiate. Burial will take place at Victory Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel. Pallbearers are Zach Jefcoat, Kaleb Jefcoat, Drew Jefcoat, Lee Bustin, Jason Herrin, and Jackie Walters. Several of his closest friends will serve as Honorary Pallbearers, including: Richard Hosey, Johnny Wade, Larry Dykes, Denny Welch, Dana Holifield, Roy Myrick, Kenneth Bryant, Kenneth Graham, Daniel Davis, Bobby Jordan, and Tony McAndrews.
