John Alvin "Johnny" Burnett

John Alvin “Johnny” Burnett, born June 6, 1944 in Mobile, AL, passed from this life on May 27, 2024. Johnny graduated from Shady Grove High School and was a lifelong locksmith known by all in the community. He ran the store across from Shady Grove for years; forming special relationships with teachers & students. Johnny was a master mason over 50 years. He was the first fire chief of the Shady Grove Fire Department, serving from 1987-1993, and helping for an additional 15 years. He served 4 years as constable, 20 years on the Board of Supervisors, and 4 serving as President. Johnny loved the Lord and lived his life for Him. He was a gentleman. He enjoyed helping people. He was also a charter member of Tallahoma Baptist Church and an ordained minister. Johnny was a loving husband to Betty Carolyn Burnett for 29 years. He has been a member of First Baptist Church of Sharon since 1995; where he served as a Sunday school teacher and trustee. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Mae & Robert Burnett; brothers, James R “Joe”, Jack, and Billy Ray Burnett; and daughter, Amy Lenora Burnett. Those left to treasure his memory are his wife, Betty Carolyn Burnett; children, Tressy (Tom) Merrill of Port Aransas, TX, Joanie Marie (Trae) Gaenzel of Pleasanton, TX, John Curtis (Erica) Burnett of Maxwell, TX, and Melissa (Mohamed) Nasr of George Town, TX; bonus children, Julie (James Brantley) Roberts of Purvis, MS, Rhonda (John) Perkins of Laurel, MS, Ron (Erica) Gavin of Soso, MS, and Roy (Dana) Gavin of Biloxi, MS. Grandchildren are Mystle (Chris) Williams of Magnolia, TX, Shelby (Stanley) Mikolajczyk of Pleasanton, TX, Garrett Dean (Franki) Hollis of Pleasanton, TX, Harrison Trae Gaenzel of Pleasanton, TX, Zadie Ellen Nicholle Gaenzel of Pleasanton, TX, Nathaniel Burnett of El Paso, TX, Nolan Burnett of Maxwell, TX, Maddisen Burnett of Maxwell, TX, Jasmine Dubovik of San Antonio, TX, Emily Dubovik of San Antonio, TX, Kayla (Greg) Evangelista of Phoenix, AZ, Dalton Webb of Flagstaff, AZ, Gavin Sellers of Hattiesburg, MS, Charlie Sellers of Purvis, MS, Lila Roberts of Purvis, MS, Joy (Zac) Clark of Ellisville, MS, Faith Gavin of Ellisville, MS, Mason (Alyssa) Gavin of Soso, MS, MacKenzie Gavin of Biloxi, MS, and Kailyn Gavin of Biloxi, MS. Johnny also had 8 great grands. Visitation and services will be held at First Baptist Church of Sharon. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024. The service will be Friday at 10 a.m. with burial in Sharon Cemetery. Reverend Matt Olson will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Mason Gavin, Charlie Sellers, Gavin Sellers, Dalton Webb, Jonathan Perkins and Zac Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Harper and Lewis Goins.
