John Matthew Everette

John Matthew Everette (Matt), 52, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024. Matt was in his home in the Calhoun community when God took and healed him. He was born on June 11, 1972 as the first of two children to Johnny and Amanda Everette Giles Everette. Matt has one sister, Angie Fletcher, and lived with his mother, Amanda and his beloved dog, Lucy, whom he adored. Matt graduated from Heidelberg Academy where he had a ton of friends and enjoyed playing football. Matt was later married to Lagena Everette Braddock for 26 years, and the greatest joy of their time together was the love of their niece and nephew, Kate and Samuel Fletcher. He went on to work in the Laurel area serving his community through the American Red Cross where he assisted hundreds of families during Hurricane Katrina. Matt was known for his love for people and desire to make people laugh. In addition to helping at Polly’s, he was quick to serve in his community wherever there was a need. He was deeply passionate about helping others in the time of need, Ole Miss football, and Jesus Christ. Matt was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and had a close relationship with Him from an early age. Matt read his Bible daily and always offered to pray and bless every meal. Matt loved his family with his whole heart, even through cancer, heart disease, divorce, mental health issues such as depression, and loneliness. Matt loved and respected his mother, he described her as the most selfless, loving and supportive person in his life. Amanda supported her family even more so as a single mother after Matt and Angie’s dad passed away. Matt was very verbal about his mom’s unwavering guidance and patience throughout his life. Matt is survived by his mother Amanda Giles, his sister Angie (Wayne), his niece Kate and his nephew Samuel, whom he adored more than life itself. He also leaves behind a dear friend, Carrie Clarke. Matt is also survived by several half and step brothers and sisters, Anthony Everette (Marcy), Christy Miller (Steve), Catherine Davis, Marlon Giles, Michelle Giles, and numerous precious cousins, as well as a best friend, Keven Holifield. He was preceded in death by his father Johnny Everette, his stepfather George Giles, and many best friends that he loved dearly and is rejoicing with right now. Visitation and service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Magnolia Baptist Church.
