Katie Miles Pippen

Katie Miles Pippen born April 8, 1920, passed away December 9, 2015 at her residence surrounded by family and friends. She is at home in Heaven with her Lord and Savior and the love of her life for 73 years, Mellon D. Katie had the distinction of the oldest member of Mt. Vernon Congregational church. She loved her church and enjoyed going there and worshipping. Children were a great joy to Katie. Over the years she welcomed into her home 50 foster children and approximately 50 children in the community. She loved each one as if they were her own. Katie was known in the community as a wonderful Christian lady, a prayer warrior, and a great cook, especially chocolate pies. The best way to describe Katie is found in Galatians 5:22-23, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She lived by Philippians 4:8, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-think on these things. She is survived by 3 daughters, Sandra Lindsey, Eva Joyce Steed (Jerry), Martha Watts (Ken), two sisters, Frema Hodge Bates and Elladean Harrell (Rev. Billy), seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Mellon D., parents, George and Mamie Miles, sisters, Little Dorthy, Alice Walters (Edgar), Dr. Lee Miles (Verdie), George Miles (Edna Ruth), and Viola Miles. Katie and Mellon D. were blessed to be cared for by caregivers: Judy Pruitt, Angela Johnson Windham, Sandra Crenshaw, Sodonia Welborn, Pat Walters, Sheana Lovett, Jewel Flynt, and Lisa Nicholson. Services will be held Friday, December 11th at Memory Chapel. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. and the service following at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Rev.
