Laura Jean McDaniel

Laura Jean McDaniel, 78, of Vossburg, MS was born on October 5, 1946 and met her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on January 28, 2025 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS. Laura was married on June 5, 1965 to her beloved husband L.J. "Mac" McDaniel in St. Louis, Missouri. Laura and Mac established their home with their children, Ben and Karen, on their farm in 1972 in Vossburg, Mississippi where Laura dedicated herself to her family, friends and church, growing and canning vegetables and fruit, fishing, and tending to animals. Laura received a degree in registered nursing from Jones County Community College in 1991. She worked tirelessly taking care of patients at South Central Hospital in Laurel, Jasper County Hospital in Bay Springs, H.C. Watkins Hospital in Quitman, Mississippi and later as a traveling hospice nurse across Central Mississippi. Laura was preceded in death by her husband L.J. "Mac" McDaniel, her son David Allen McDaniel, her brother Johnny Mosley, her mother Eileen Mosley, and her sister Leona Doba. Laura is survived by her son Ben McDaniel (Stacey); her daughter Karen Todd; her grandchildren Jody Kirsten Todd; Rachael Todd Campassi (Christopher); Benjamin McDaniel, II; Baylee McDaniel; Bryson McDaniel; Brayden McDaniel; and Cody Tucker; her great grandson Ryder Lee Owens; her sister Linda Johnson (Kenny); her sister-in-law Elise McDaniel and nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service commemorating Laura on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 5357 MS-18, Quitman, Mississippi. Brother Terry Irby will officiate with fellowship with the family to follow. In a final act of love, Laura donated tissue to benefit burn victims and her corneas to give the gift of sight to someone in need.
