Leonard Burl Caves

Leonard Burl Caves, formerly of Laurel, died August 7, 2014, at Alden Pointe in Hattiesburg. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Laurel with services to follow at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Randy Turner will officiate. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery. Leonard was born on February 14, 1931, in Wayne County and grew up in the Millcreek Community. He graduated from Myrick High School, Jones County Junior College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the United States Navy with distinction. He was a teacher, coach, and principal in the Jones County and Laurel School Districts. He proudly served the people of Jones County as Circuit Clerk and Chancery Clerk for 16 years. He returned to the Jackson School of Law (now Mississippi College) to earn his juris doctor degree. He practiced law for 32 years. In 1983, he formed Caves & Caves Attorneys at Law with his son, Terry L. Caves. Leonard was married to Frances Caves for 60 years. He was a faithful and loyal husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Leonard was a wonderful example of a selfless and loyal servant to his family. His hobbies were entertaining and loving his grandchildren and attending all of their school and extracurricular activities. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Laurel. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Ras Berry Caves and Maebell Busby Caves, his brothers, Ras Lavaughn Caves, and James Haskel Caves. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sally Caves of Laurel; his daughter and son-in-law, Tena and Allen Smith of Puckett; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Jim Roseberry of Hattiesburg; his brother and wife, Roy Dennis Caves and Ann White Caves of Madison; and his sister, Sherry Ann Kostka of Columbus; five grandchildren, Risher and Christopher Caves, Jim Lindsey, Reagan Roseberry, and Frances Smith. The family would like to express its gratitude to his care givers, Kathy Lofton, Tomeka Jackson, Orastean Jackson, Taion Woodward, Tonya Jackson, and all of the staff at Alden Pointe for their loving care and service.
