Mary Ann Yelverton

Mary Ann (Granny) Yelverton died peacefully in her Laurel home on October 4, 2016 at the age of 78. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Charles Deen, children: Dean, Deanne, and Andy. Sister-in- law, Andria Yelverton, son-in-law Brian Manion and grandchildren: Ian, Jared, Morgan, and Riley. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her brother David and sister in laws, Dorothy, Louis, Mildred, Vada and several nieces and nephews. Mary Ann’s death was proceeded in death by her brothers, Robert, Charles, James and sisters Evelyn and Nina Bell. Mary Ann was born on January 20, 1938 in Texico, IL to Lewis and Flossie Tate of Texico, IL. Mary Ann married Charles Deen Yelverton on March 10, 1961 in Texico, IL. Mary Ann started their family in Ted, MS and moved to Shady Grove in 1974 where she resided until her death. Granny was loved dearly by everyone that knew her. If you had to describe Granny with one word, it would be “servant”. No matter who you were or what you needed, Granny was going to be there for you. She wasn’t just a mom to her biological children, she was a “mom” to everyone’s children. She raised so many children as if they were her own. If you were a friend or family member to Granny, then you could always count on getting a “birthday/anniversary” card every year from her. If you were sick or someone was having a baby, she was there to lend a helping hand. Her service to her church was endless. Granny has truly left a legacy for all of us to follow. That legacy is to “love despite differences” and to serve others before yourselves. There will be a visitation held at Memory Chapel, 3100 Audubon Drive, Laurel, MS 39440 on Thursday, October 6th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, October 7th at 10:00 AM followed by a graveside service at Ted Baptist Church S. County Rd 52, Louin, MS 39338. Following the graveside service, there will be a reception with coffee/tea and light refreshments at the Yelverton’s home at 4585 Hwy 15 N., Laurel, MS 39443. Mr. John Novick will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Granny’s life. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to the Mississippi Baptist Children’s Home, 118 Lowes Road, Laurel, MS 39443. Envelopes and instructions will be available at the service.
