Octavia Earnestine Stringer

Octavia Earnestine Stringer, born January 18, 1934, went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Bertha Smith and her sisters Lena Pearson, Neva Parish, Juanita Allred, and Billie Gipson. Her commitment to her family, church, and community was evident in all she did. Her devotion to her family was displayed whether she was pouring into them with her talents (cooking for and discipling others). She invested in her family by making each feel like they were important. They love and treasure the traditions she established with each of them and appreciate the Christian influence and the godly marriage she and her husband exhibited for her family. She was a church pianist, taught Sunday school for many years, and touched countless lives with her love for the Lord and unwavering services for God and others. She loved the Shady Grove community and held a special place in her heart for the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department where her husband still serves as a member. She is survived by her husband, Darrell Stringer, children, Jimmy Dale Stringer of Jackson and wife Debbie, Johnny Stringer of Laurel and wife Sherry, Susan Cockrill of Laurel and husband Harvey Joel, and Jerry Stringer of Jackson and wife Debbie. She is survived by her grandchildren: Shanna Matthews, Jonathan Stringer, Kylan Port, Wendy Jordan, Lindsey Mclnnis, Melanie Glenn, Melissa Reid, and Megan Evans. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Ashlynn Little, Kade Matthews, Kace Matthews, Kale Matthews, Molly Stringer, Slade Stringer, Noah Glenn, Natalie Glenn, Paisley Reid, Rayleigh Evans and one great-great- grandson, Liam Wynn. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Wedgeworth of Amarillo, TX and a host of extended family members. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Lora Huddleston and to Southern Care Hospice Personnel for their compassionate and professional services. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Stringer, Kade Matthews, Zach Glenn, Matt Reid, Bradley Evans, and Ernest Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation will be Friday, July 1, 2016 at 5-8 PM at Memory Chapel in Laurel, MS. The funeral will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Baptist Church in Laurel, Ms. Rev.
