Ruby Lee Walters Sumrall

Ruby Lee Walters Sumrall, 87, of Laurel, was called by our Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Care Center of Laurel. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Freedom Baptist Church with burial to follow at Millcreek Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Robby Johnson and Rev. Tommy Davis will officiate. She was born in Laurel on January 27, 1925. Ruby was married to William Roy Walters. After his death, she was married to T.O. Sumrall. Our mother, grandmother, and friend was a homemaker for many years. She was also a retiree from the Jones County School District where she worked as the cafeteria manager of Myrick School for 25 years. As a member of Freedom Baptist Church, she enjoyed serving her Lord and fellowshipping with the women in her Sunday school class. Her last days were peaceful and filled according to her wishes. The family surrounded her bedside, filled the room with joy, and recalled fond memories of days gone by. She is survived by sisters, Vinnie Scruggs of Laurel and Christine Mahon of Texas. Her children include: sons, David Walters and wife Brenda, Alan Walters and wife Judy and Russell Walters and wife Jeannie all of Laurel; daughters, Delores Breland and husband Commodore and Dennice Walters and husband Daniel all of Laurel. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Molly Walters of Laurel, two step daughters, Opal Lott and husband Harold of Laurel and Esther Meriam and husband Glen of Jackson; and grandchildren, Tim Walters, Lee Walters, Craig Walters, Mike Walters, Missy Bufkin, Laticha Tidwell, Jonathan Walters, Carlton Breland, Michelle Walters, and Jessica Ledlow, all of Laurel. A host of 15 great-grandchildren also blessed her life. She was preceded in death by: husband, William Roy Walters; husband, T.O. Sumrall; sons, Carlton Wayne Walters and Roy L. Walters; and several sisters and brothers. Pallbearers will be Tim Walters, Mike Walters, Craig Walters, Jonathan Walters, Carlton Breland, Peyton Bufkin, Josh Ledlow and Robert Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Walters and Ryan Walters. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 pm Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Memory Chapel of Laurel which is in charge of the arrangements.
