Vondell Spradley

Vondell Spradley, entered this life on September 8, 1936, born to Jim and Daisy Spradley of Moss, Mississippi. He was the seventh of their seventeen children. After a long and full life, he peacefully left his earthly home surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2025. Vondell graduated from Moss High School in 1956 as part of the last graduating class. After graduating he spent several years working on the family farm, before working in local oil fields, Ingall’s, and Masonite. He joined the National Guard in 1959 and was enlisted for 8 years. In 1972, Vondell began his career with the City of Laurel’s engineering department, rising to head the department by 1974. He retired in 1994 due to multiple sclerosis but found renewed purpose in retirement through his business, V Woodworks, crafting cedar furniture and keepsakes that brought joy to many. Vondell was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Anderson; his son, Troy Spradley; his parents; his brothers Gerald, Jimmie, J.W., Bobby Lee, Donnie Ray, and Roger Dale Spradley; sisters Irma Poore, Betty Sue Simms, Jeanette Herrington, Ruth Lindsey, Mildred (Nancy) McCord; and son-in-law, John Moore, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Yates Spradley; his children, Dale Windham (John) and Judy Moore; step-daughter, Jan Foster (Kenneth); grandchildren, Dionna Wood, Mike Taylor (Katie), Jason Moore (Elizabeth), Tyler Moore (Casey), Tate Moore (Brittany), Lauren Spradley; siblings, Mary Ann Johnson, Faye McCarty (Marion), Milton Dean, Jessie Iran, and Roy Spradley (Sherry) as well as a host of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Vondell was an active member of First Baptist Church of Laurel. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each carrying forward his values of hard work, education, and community service. Services will be officiated by Dr. David McMord and Reverend Shannon Slover in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Laurel on Saturday January 3, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. with services starting at 10:00 A.M. A graveside service will follow at the Spradley Family Cemetery in Moss, Mississippi. Pallbearers will be Tyler Moore, Mike Herrington, Ray Freeman, Mark Spradley, Steve Spradley, and Kenneth Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Boone and Bryan Hoda.
